The Esme Louise Fire Boat

In the summer of 2008, Esme and her cousins spent the afternoon with the Fire Department in Sioux Narrows, Ontario (where she spent her summers with her family) touring their facilities and riding on the truck (every child's dream!) When the Fire Department heard the news of her death, they remembered her warmth and enthusiasm and decided to name their brand new fire boat "The Esme Louise" in her memory, so that her young spirit would give courage to those who put their lives in danger for others. The boat was dedicated at a special ceremony on August 7 with the town members, volunteer fire department, and many of Esme's family in attendance. Thanks to the township of Sioux Narrows, Ontario Fire Department and community and to all who continue to hold Esme's spirit dear.

The Esme Memorial Tree

This past Tuesday, May 26th, we held a tree-planting ceremony for Esme in a special place in beautiful Spring Grove cemetery. The usually quiet northwest corner of the cemetery grounds (http://www.springgrove.org/SG/PDF/SGMap.pdf), rang with the sound of many voices, as Esme's class from the Waldorf School gathered with friends from SCPA, the St. John's UU church community, family and other friends gathered to express our love for this special girl, and consecrate the spot with song.

The tree is a weeping cherry tree, more than a decade old, that was grown on the grounds by the arborists at Spring Grove. It is highly symbolic -- with gorgeous blooms that pass quickly, these trees are often associated with the transience of beautiful things and serve as an enduring metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life in many Eastern traditions.

We sang Esme some Beatles songs and some family songs, all helped to plant the tree and wrote messages on ribbons to tie onto the tree's many branches. What Esme would have liked the most was us gathering all of the people -- some 75 of her family and friends -- into a huge circle, holding hands, and offering thoughts of warmth and kindness to her spirit. She gave us so many, it felt like returning the favor. And although it was a bittersweet ceremony, the sun came out and shone upon us, and it felt like a fitting tribute to our wonderful girl.

Have you ever had someone in your life who you always have in the background making things happen and will always love you no matter what? Well, I had that person in my life. On December 23, 2008 around 11:30 my aunt Sue pasted away. I can't remember a time up in Canada were she wouldn't be making a birthday cake for Harper (her granddaughter), or preparing a fish dinner with my mom.
Esme wrote the above entry. I just found it in her blog drafts and am publishing her touching tribute to a favorite Auntie. Makes me wonder what good things I have left unfinished, what kind words I've left unsaid. -Lisa (Esme's Mom)

TODDLERS??? HELP!!!!!!!

By the title some people may think I hate toddlers. But truth be told I actually love them!!! I think they are adorable, sweet and cuddly. The two Toddlers I am talking about are named Harper and Campbell. Harper is four and Campbell is two. But anyway, the question that is probably going through your brain right now is why did she write that title if she loves little kids? Well, the answer to that is there is always a list of things I do whenever I see these two. We have to: Sing the "Who likes popcorn?" song,give loads of piggy back rides, play with Lego's and Barbies, Play hide and seek, and chase them around. Very long list isn't it? and I am very tired by the end of the day. Thankfully once I tire them out they are pretty tame. right now I have a very tired four year old on my lap. YIKES!!!!! I take that back. Make that a very hyper four year old.

Family road trip to Red River Gorge

Hello All!
It has been awhile since my last post and I think I need to catch you up on what is happening in my life. This weekend My Mom, Dad and I went to a cabin out in Red River Gorge in Kentucky. Some of the highlights of the trip were: going in the sauna,hiking to Natural Bridge and seeing the view from the top, eating pizza at the best pizza place in the world, Miguel's pizza!!!!!!! and it just happened to be the 25Th anniversary so that night they had a HUGE bonfire and all these crazy rock climbers were there. The cabin we were in was amazing!! They had stain glass windows and a great view on Battleship rock. Out back they had a hot tub, (which we never got up to temperature) a sauna, and a Yoga studio. Hi it's been awhile since I have updated and I wanted to get you guys up to date with my summer. Here are some pictures, the first one is of me when I was walking with my mom. The second one is of my cat in a cupboard. The third is of my Mom's dog and me. I have been ski bobbing with my cousins,fishing,boating, and talking on email with my friends (I miss them a lot!!!) I also got to the town dump with my aunt and my Mom. Oh, just to clarify for those of you who don't know, dumps are not bad places they are a bit stinky but you can also find cool things there like tables and chairs stuff like that!!! Well, School got out last Wednesday and I've been very happy about that. I've been emailing friends and playing outside. On Thursday I woke up (it was strange not going to school) and I finished up packing for a trip to Boston then accompanied my mom to a art Gallery (she was going to have a show on Friday) and waited around till my sister Meghan and her husband Todd and Meghan's step dad Terry (Terry was driving) to the Airport. I got to the airport and we were off on a adventure, the plane ride was uneventful except towards the end when my ear drums felt like they were going to explode. We got there and Brian (my brother) picked us up and took us back to his apartment. I've been here for 3 days and I already love his apartment we've watched one episode of the x files and one episode of Star trek. Here it is Sunday and I feel like I can't spend enough time here in Boston running around town on the freedom trail or out in nature watching lightening out on the Ocean and getting souvenirs I picked up a great pink hat that says Boston on it it's adorable!!!! Now for the best part of the post!! This morning Sunday morning I woke up and we decided to have cereal and I pored the cereal and I decided I wanted the tiniest bit of sugar in my cereal so I went got the sugar and put a little bit in I mixed it up and tasted it and I was very surprised I had put salt in my cereal!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't even eat it!!!! that was my little drama for today. I will be going home Tuesday and I will miss Boston a lot I think I will move here when I grow up.

Hello everyone,

We love our new Ford Hybrid it's big enough that you can haul big stuff.But the thing I like most of all is the Navigation system which was very helpful in Chicago. A lot of people posted that they wanted to see pictures of our new car. So I went out side with my mom's camera and took some pictures so you guys could see what it looks like. The first picture you see is a front view of the car, The second picture is the back of the car, the third picture is the Navigation system/Radio, the fourth is of our leather seats,and the next two are side views of the car. I went to see Wicked in Chicago. I loved it it was interesting to find out about the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda The Good. We also got a new car it's a Ford Escape Hybrid it's Silver and has leather seats.

The Body's exhibit at the museum

This Sunday, instead of going to our Unitarian church, we went to see the Bodies Exhibit at Union Terminal Museum Center. It was kind of gross and fascinating at the same time because it had all the flesh turned out of the body and little models of babies from 9-23 month's old. I'm glad I went with my mom and dad because dad is a doctor and explained stuff to us. And because my dad remembered going there to catch trains. It was a great learning experience for me.

Finally!!! I got to see HAIRSPRAY!!!!! I loved it!!! I felt so left out when my friends talked about going to see Hairspray. Now that I've seen it, I understand why they watch it over and over and over. Link your pork is ready!!!!

In memory of Old Saint George

As some of you may not know, Old Saint George in Clifton burned down tonight. It was a sad night for my mom and I, because I played guitar there once for a coffee house which you can share songs. My mom did yoga there for years and it was a shock to both of us. Mom was the saddest because she went to the building for a long time to do yoga and she loved the old architecture. Here are a few photos. One is a before shot and one is taken during the fire.

Finally it's my Birthday
I am turning twelve. For my birthday I get to go ice skating with some friends at fountain square and I'm going to fall on my butt which I will enjoy because I'm not the only one who's going to fall were all going to fall together and that's what life's about falling on your butt and getting up again and trying again no matter how hard it seems you'll get it!!! I hope I will get my wish on my birthday and thats to have a good time with my friends!!! I will add pictures ASAP but on my computer I don't have internet so I have to wait for that to update.
